A Commute Coordinator provides one-on-one, hand
holding assistance to be effective in helping commuters sort through the options
available and of the services and incentives provided by their employer.
Individual commute planning helps commuters identify the specific options that
might work for them, and figure out how to use that option.
Many potential Active Transportation
Mode converts need one-on-one guidance because they are overwhelmed by the
myriad options and may be intimidated by complex transit schedules or the
uncertainties associated with trying something new. We call this
individual / targeted marketing

One Commute Coordinator developed a successful
in-house employee commute program, by working with a task force, composed of
employees from all job types, and hospital management. One suggestion from
the task force was a peg board where
employees can post a carpool request card on their home zip code peg.
Other employees from that zip code can take the card and call the person.
Another suggestion was to put an
information board on the wall leading to the
cafeteria, loaded with carpool match request forms, bicycle and walking
information.
